Everyone is trying to be a musician now days so it's great when you find someone who is not only generally talented but easy on the eye and a lovely person too! Luke Holland is the only drummer I've seen able to add stick tricks to his sets so flawlessly. Check out my favourite of his covers 'Skrillex - Cinema Drum Remix';
From Justin Bieber to Skrillex to Mars Volta to Of Mice & Men, he makes it look easy!
Luke Holland joined The Word Alive this year and has just finished touring with them, I recently got the opportunity to interview him:
You've just finished touring with The Word Alive how was it? Have you ever toured before?
I haven't done any official tours like with TWA, but i travelled to Europe and to different states performing with 'The Green Children'.
What was it like to get the message from The Word Alive asking you to join?
When I got the message from the vocalist, Telle, it was very cool. I was excited about what's to come!
What country had the best crowd and which was the best show for you?
I think in the UK, we played the Slam Dunk Festival. That was definitely a lot of fun.
I saw you play at Slam Dunk and you guys were amazing! Are you the permanent drummer for TWA now, after your performance on tour they'd be silly not to keep you!?
I am going to be sticking with TWA now, yes.
How long have you been drumming? Did you ever expect this level of success when you started out?
I've been drumming for around 7 years. Definitely did not expect anything to come out of it.
You've created quite a buzz, especially on YouTube with nearly 13 million views have you found it hard to get yourself known?
I got lucky creating a name for myself. I had people that were genuinely interested in me and they started spreading word. Eventually it got to people with very heavy influence on the social media and that's what got my initial thrust into the internet craze.
You've got some crazy fans and some dedicated 'fan girls' is it hard to keep up with them all?
It is a bit difficult, but I definitely try my best. Who am I without my fans?
We all know they're wanting to know one question are you single?
Yes, I am single. Haha!
You're about to turn 19, have you got any plans for your birthday?
Just gonna have a good time for my birthday. I have to take my parents to the airport bright and early though.
How does it feel knowing that at just 19 years old you've inspired and made an impact on so many peoples lives?
It's pretty crazy, but I'm not even a fraction of where I want to be in my level of success. I've got a long way to go.
Do you get 'hate' and how do you deal with it when you do?
I get TONS of hate. Lots of people thinking I'm spoiled, that I get everything handed to me. That I can't play the drums and only "throw my sticks around". They don't know I've worked hard for what I have and not a single thing was given to me like that.
Do you have any tips for aspiring drummers out there?
If I had some advice for aspiring drummers, I'd say not to limit yourself to one genre! Play to everything. You will notice a swift, steady improvement.
I just put out my newest remix of 'Boyfriend' by Justin Bieber. I filmed another video to be released in a week or two. I'm going to be out on tour for pretty much the rest of the year. You can come see me play with The Word Alive and stay tuned for some new videos!
