Bringing a Fresh Face to the Big Screen: Interview with Elyse DuFour

Elyse DuFour brings a refreshing face, balanced craft, and energized technique to film and television.

Originally born in the greater DC metro and Virginia area; DuFour is now based in Atlanta and working to magnify her resume with a strategic approach, creating a natural growth for an ambitious entertainer. She is a young lady with a lot of heart and determination to make sure the world knows her name, and it’s looking like she’s doing a pretty great job at it so far. Aside from gracing the pages of one of the World’s Premiere Mags with Beautiful Women worldwide, having already completed 3 Independent Films, with 2 more on the way. From Commercial/Print to Feature Films, and in case you're curious, a top model Editor pick for Maxim magazine.

2014 will be a banner year for Elyse - since transitioning to the Atlanta market, she has held significant roles including HBO's VEEP. DuFour credits both the The Paramount State Theater School Of Acting and the Austin School of Arts for developing her niche skills in Acting and performance.

All Indie Magazine: First of all, thank you for this opportunity. So, you’ve been in several films since 2012 including Drakul, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Holy Sound, Alexandria, Merry F@#$ing Christmas, and Wicked Attraction. Which was your favorite project you worked on?
Elyse DuFour: My favorite project so far has been The House Behind the Wall which shot last summer on location in Ft. Monroe, Virginia. It was remarkably beautiful and holds so much intriguing history. THBW will hopefully be released within the next few weeks! Im not sure why, but I love working on indies more than studio films at this point.(I am barely in Drakul, but I was featured on HBOs VEEP)

All Indie Magazine: You were a recent Editors Pick for Maxim Magazine. Do you enjoy modeling or
acting or both? Elyse DuFour: I am very lucky and thankful to be able to do both, but if I had to choose one I would, without a doubt, choose acting. My entire life revolves around it. Acting has almost become a kind of therapy for me. When I’m not on set, If I don’t work on a scene for at least two hours a day, I begin to get very anxious. All Indie Magazine: What is your least favorite part of acting and modeling?

Elyse DuFour: The assumption that my goal in life is to be famous. I guess it comes with the territory, but I am an actor because I love film and television, not because I dream about being chased around by paparazzi. I don’t see how anyone could want that. I want to work on films that will make people feel something outside of themselves, and ultimately have my performances regarded as quality work. Of course money and recognition would be fantastic and I do want that, but only to a certain degree.

All Indie Magazine: What do you like to do when you’re not acting and modeling?
Elyse DuFour: I always dread this question because I sound so boring. I watch a lot of film and tv in my spare time. I just started playing guitar, learning French , and I read a lot. .Ill go to a party or two once in a while, but usually when im not working I am as lazy as possible. Oh and I spend a lot of time in my Strasberg class which has completely changed my life.

All Indie Magazine: What motivated you to become an actress?

Elyse DuFour: Ive always wanted to be an actress, though I suppose I was afraid to admit that I wanted to do something so ridiculously impractical. So I kept that dream to myself. Then In 2012 I was going to college for psychology and history ( which I still have a great passion for) but I just wasn’t happy. I remember having this ‘light bulb’ moment where I thought to myself, “If I could do anything in the world without fear of failure, or the fear of what anyone would say about me.. what would I do?”. That night I went home and told my mom I was going to be an actress. She has supported me in this craziness 100% since then. Thanks Mom!

All Indie Magazine: Did modeling become an opportunity that came of acting or did you pursue it?

Elyse DuFour: Modeling did come second to acting. I was a little too shy when I first started acting and modeling helped break me out of my shell.

All Indie Magazine: If you had a lead role in a major film and you could pick your co-star, who would you choose to star with?

Elyse DuFour: Can I pick more than one? Gary Oldman, Christopher Walken, and John Malkovich. Also I admire Tatiana Maslany very much for her work on Orphan Black. OH and Jordan Gavaris blows my mind, I would love to work with him.

All Indie Magazine: What is on the horizon? What projects are coming up and when can we expect to see you on the big screen or magazine issues?

Elyse DuFour: I was just cast in a film called “The Gift”, I cant say too much about it yet but I am very, very excited to have won the role of Abby. It had one of the longest audition processes Ive been through so far, so finally finding out that I did book it felt so wonderfully rewarding. The producer and Director have done such great work, Im just honored! I am shooting a national commercial within the next few days, I cant say much about that either at this point but it should be running everywhere in the US by the end of July!

Thank you guys so much for your time! You’re awesome!
