Interview with Devon Michael: "There's something about Devon"
Originally from New York, Devon Michael Wade also known as "Devon Michael" moves from New York to California to work on his brand new debut album called, There's Something About Devon.
There's something about Devon Michael, alright. As the mainstream radio airwaves seem to be flooded with the same artists repeated over the airwaves time and time again without a spawn of something new, Devon Michael brings a fresh new taste of flavor that radio's been missing.
What I dig about DM is his originality. You get more than one speed of music from this album. It travels from great driving music, to the dance floor, to the street, and to the bedroom. It is impossible to get bored with this album, because there's is no one constant. It makes the listener wonder what the next song will bring. If you enjoy R&B and Hip Hop, you get the best of both worlds and it's impossible to just listen to once, in fact, you get hooked.
One of my favorites of the album is the song, "LA Love Story". While this song has a great story about finding love in the fine city of Los Angeles, this track is meant for the dance floor, and could easily be LA's newest theme song.
The next song that has me listening to over and over is, "I Want Her". The song in many respects is very swallow and has very little depth, but it is a "jumpin" jam. Yet again, it's another club beat meant for the dance floor, but what's wrong with that? While, it may sound like the entire album seems to target the more youthful audience, There's Something About Devon does give a little bit of something for all types of listeners.
The third track that caught my attention and is the most impressive of the album is the song, "A Letter to My Family". Aside from being one of the best produced songs out there offering the perfect balance of music in the right places with a great tempo and easy for listening, it also has an incredible touching story. The song is about losing his father and then him moving away to pursue his music career. To help speak his mind and his heart, he writes a letter to his mother.
Other notable songs worth owning are "Can't Land a Plane", "Precious", "We Own the Night", "Million Dollar Music" and his newest release, "Would You Be Down".
Overall, There's Something About Devon is one of the best R&B/Hip Hop album's this year, because of its engaging factor and because the music simply, "pops".
