AIMA Season IV Submission Window is Closing and Awards Ceremony Update

The Final submission date to enter Season IV of the Artists In Music Awards is November 15, 2014 at Midnight. If you have not become a member and submitted, there is still plenty of time.

For more information and to find your category go to http://www.aimusicawards.com/#!vote/c60z

We have several categories in Music, Film, Poetry, Literature, Photography, and Theatre. If your category is not represented, please let us know. We may add it.

Behind the Scenes

If you have been apart of AIMA at all during the past 3 seasons, you may have noticed that we are doing less live shows during the year. Now that we are under the Siqueiros Foundation of the Arts, the Artists In Music Awards has scaled back on the monthly shows, but we are very much still active. We do plan on continuing the live show tradition in Season V and reintroducing the Summer Showcase and the Breakthrough Series.

As of today, we are behind the scenes hard at work and focusing on the final stages of obtaining our 501c3 charity organizational license. In the meantime, the Executive Board of Directors have been diligently attending Community events, shaking hands with State and City leaders by attending political events, and appearing at various Art & Music shows in and around Los Angeles as part of our awareness campaign.

Awards Ceremony

As of today, we are unable to reveal the official location of the Awards Ceremony, but we will very soon. The Awards Ceremony is still scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2015 and it will be held in Los Angeles. Once we have the “go-ahead” we will send out a Press Release to make the HUGE announcement.

For the main event, we are doing something never done before - show full-length films, have live performances, and exhibit Art during a televised event. At the present moment, we are looking for Full-Length Films, Short films, and Documentary’s. As mentioned previously, we will have an exhibit area to showcase Artwork, so we are looking for Nominees from the Visual Arts arena. Of course, we are also looking for live music performers for the main stage to perform in between the trophy presentations. If you are a member and you have something unique to offer, please email us.

Once we make the location announcement, we will begin selling tickets to attend the main event.

FYI: Anyone can become a member. As a member, you can nominate yourself, a band, or any single artist, actor, etc. You are also welcome to nominate someone for Lifetime Achievement, Educator of the Year, etc. We simply ask that if you nominate someone for an award, your participant is aware they must be present during the awards ceremony as we have a strict attendance policy - We do not award absentees.

To join and submit, go to http://www.aimusicawards.com/#!submit

The final submission date is NOVEMBER 15, 2015.

About the Artists In Music Awards
Established in 2011, the Artists In Music Awards was originally created to honor and recognize the most talented and gifted artists.

Over the years, this tradition has evolved beyond the recognition of a singular art form with a desire to encompass all areas of Arts & Entertainment.

On April 28, 2014, Artists In Music Awards joined forces with the Siqueiros Foundation of the Arts. SFOTA is a non-profit organization with two goals in mind - the dedication to empowering creative youth by providing scholarship opportunities to underprivileged children and providing an avenue to explore and express the arts through unity and community involvement. SOFTA is also dedicated to creating jobs for out of work artists using Federal aid through the resurrection of the Federal Art Project (FAP), a program with a focus on putting Artists back to work, but disappeared after the end of the Depression Era in 1943.

Now under the Siqueiros Foundation of the Arts, this is not only a new chapter for the Artists In Music Awards, but an exciting opportunity for all artists to be apart of.

As a member of the AIMA and SFOTA comes with special privileges including exclusive access to special events, FREE awards submissions, workshops, discounts on premiere affiliated art exhibits and award events, plus voting privileges on AIMA categories.

Interview with The Como Brothers Band on The Great Unknowns Presents

Mikey Jayy of the Great Unknowns Presents interviews The Como Brothers Band. The Como Brothers is a 2-time Artists In Music Awards winner including titles for 2014 Composer of the Year and Album of the Year for Baby Steps LIVE on KGUP 106.5FM.

About The Como Brothers Band

Matt and Andrew Como are songwriters and musicians that value organic music, and songs with original integrity. All of their songs are credited as written by Matt and Andrew Como. Music is not a hobby of the brothers but a way of life and a career. Early in life their Dad and his brothers played music at family parties and Matt and Andrew were inspired along with their parents encouragement, to play music. Music was a big part of their lives throughout childhood and their teenage years. They extensively played live throughout high school and college and are now an experienced live act. In 2010 they officially began the rock band The Como Brothers Band and have been pushing forward for their dreams of a long-term career in music.

Having grown up performing in a Beatles tribute band on Long Island The Como Brothers have proved to be true musicians. Channeling their love of singing and music composition, Matt and Andrew aim to create original music that is fun to groove out to, but at the same time can be relatable and meaningful to fans.

“We wanted to make an album that was as accessible as it was relatable. The topics of the songs are very universal. There’s nothing on there that will cause anyone to say, ‘Well, I really have no idea what they’re trying to tell me.’ Everything is pretty straightforward, and that’s exactly how we wanted it to be. We wanted to write a pop album, but on our own terms.” said guitarist and singer Andrew Como.

Past performances include opening for David Cook, The Wallflowers, and Jillian Jensen. They’ve also played numerous music festival events throughout the northeast and popular music venues like Hard Rock Caf, Highline Ballroom and Nikon Jones Beach Theatre.

Music from their previous EP’s, “The Speed of Sound” [January 2012] and “Still Waters” [March 2013] has appeared on episodes of E! Network’s Keeping Up with the Kardashians, MTV’s Real World Portland & St. Thomas, and Oxygen channel’s Best Ink. In addition to opening for David Cook, The Como Brothers Band will be performing at the CBGB Festival 2013 on October 11 at Tammany Hall; and the New York City Marathon on November 3rd.

Interview with 3-time Music Award winner Walla on The Great Unknowns Presents

Mikey Jayy of the Great Unknowns Presents interviews Walla. Walla is 3-time Artists In Music Awards winner for 2013 Best Indie Artist, 2014 Best Indie Artist, and 2014 Best Alternative Artist LIVE on KGUP 106.5FM.

Listen to the interview here: https://archive.org/details/Episode169WallaInterview

ABOUT WALLA
WALLA formed out of different times, places, and hardships. By random chance, these 5 individuals found each other through digital means and a common love for inventing new wavelengths. After forming a strong friendship and working tirelessly on different prototypes of songs, they finally decided to begin the project, now officially called, WALLA. The name is a reference to the sound and murmur resulting from a large crowd of people. The sound also reflected confusion and hopelessness during a time of tough life decisions and rough financial circumstances. But through sheer perseverance and the culmination of different influences (everything from pop, funk, samba, rock, metal, folk, disco, and neo-psychedelia)WALLA quickly made an indestructible pact to maintain strong melodies and lyrics, putting above and beyond care and effort into each decibel of sound produced (almost to the point of neuroticism), and allowing each song to breathe its own life and soul. "We loved the idea of not knowing what type of song we would come up with next."

Listeners have described WALLA as a indie pop, synth-based, retro-influenced, indie rock, or something along those lines. Their credentials range from 2 members being graduates from the prestigious Berklee College of Music, touring in Europe, scoring big band arrangements, and playing sold out concerts and festivals. All members have a background from a different part of the globe (Mexico/El Salvador, Italy, Indonesia, Brazil, Korea) which is advantageous in influencing their songs, but also disadvantageous because of student visa issues. Nevertheless WALLA continued to press on and eventually ranked #1 on Hypem.com, #6 on FMQB Radio Charts, landed press from Billboard, MTV to USA Today and Nylon Magazine. They were also invited to share the stage with one of the members of Depeche mode, worked with Grammy winning producers, and "zoned" out to a collaborative sound through multiple mediums from radio to the more obscure. "But still our goal since conception has never changed: to keep doing music out of a passion and pure love for it. The longer we can do it, the better, and the more people who can help and support our journey, the more we keep going."

Picasso once said "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up." Despite legal, economical, and financial challenges, WALLA continues to face that problem head on, going face first into the mysteriously inconceivable abyss. "Just like our songs, we never know where WALLA will take us next and we admit, we like it that way."

Artists In Music Awards Board of Judges Revoke Award and Unanimously make McKenna Loren the 2014 Best Country Artist Winner

Artists In Music Awards revoke title from Calico the Band and unanimously award 17-year-old Singer Songwriter and Country Artist McKenna Loren as the recipient of the award for Best Country Artist at the 3rd Annual Artists In Music Awards.

For Immediate Release
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - For the first time in AIMA’s 3-year history, the Board of Judges revoked Calico the Band’s 2014 award for Best Country Artist on Sunday and named McKenna Loren as the recipient for the title by unanimous decision.

The Los Angeles based music awards platform took action when recording artist Calico the Band were a “no show” at the 2014 Artists In Music Awards held at Jon Lovitz Theatre on February 7. The rules state that all nominees must be present at the awards ceremony otherwise elect to have a representative appear on the artist’s behalf to collect their award.
“Out of respect of this organization and to the artists you compete with, all artists must be present to receive Nomination Certificate(s) or Award trophy(s) unless authorized with prior written approval. This is to the benefit of the artists career and to the benefit of the AIMA organization. If you cannot attend the Nomination Event or Awards Ceremony, you may elect to have a representative receive award(s) on your behalf or receive their nomination certificate(s) on the day of the Awards Ceremony. Only one artist per year is authorized to be absent from accepting an award in person during the awards ceremony, however all absentee requests must be emailed or mailed to the corporate office. As soon as possible, the artist must notify the AIMA office immediately or the artist may be subject to review for possible disqualification. If disqualified, the artist voluntarily or involuntarily forfiets the award to the runner up.” - Artists In Music Awards Rules
Calico the Band was awarded the AIMA trophy for Best Country Artist during the Awards Ceremony held at Jon Lovitz Theatre in front of a 700 plus crowd consisting of 150 Nominees, media, and various guests. After the Best Country video of nominees was played on the big screen, MC of the show, Nic Creznic opened the envelope to announce that Calico the Band had won, nearly 30 seconds past by before moving onto the next category.
“It feels like an eternity when we call out the winner’s name and no one is there to collect the award. It’s not only awkward to the host, but it’s awkward to the audience. More importantly, it’s disrespectful to the artists that travel hundreds of miles to be here, especially when everyone except the winner is there” - Mikey Jayy, executive producer.
The Artists In Music Awards Board of Judges reviewed the circumstances surrounding the event and we’re given as long as they needed to make their decision. After only three days of deliberation, all votes pointed toward revocation of the title and was decided that the 17-year-old Country Singer Songwriter McKenna Loren would receive the title of Best Country Artist for 2014.

The 2014 Board of Judges are Lea Reis (Record Producer), Dan Burns (Record Producer), Jeff Weber (Owner of Weber Works Entertainment), Guy Towe (Radio DJ), Gus Summer (Radio DJ), Fredrick Rawlins (Musician), Margaret Guiraud (Talent Agent), Walter D Hargrave (CEO/Owner of Indie Music Bus), Carol Riodan (Radio DJ), and Mark Lamdanski (Radio DJ).

About McKenna Loren

Music has been a constant in McKenna Loren’s life, but it wasn’t until she made a move from the Midwest to Arizona that she started writing down what was inside of her. “The unfamiliar surroundings and the way that I felt there opened my eyes and brought new sounds and thoughts together that inspired her EP, DIVE IN, which release on June 25, 2013. McKenna soon began recording her originals with Otto D’Agnolo of Chaton Studios in Phoenix. McKenna Loren’s musical influences go as far back as Billie Holiday and Kay Kyser and are as immediate as The Killers, Florence + The Machine, and Lana Del Rey. Listeners can hear her music on several radio stations across the US including KGUP 106.5 FM, WOS Radio, WOAfm99 (India/Dubai) Butterflies Radio, and TRS 24/7 Radio. Watch her music video for “You Can’t Beat The City” on Youtube. McKenna’s video was also included in Season 2 of WOA TV - All Things Music.

A Successful 3rd Annual Artists In Music Awards is Now on the Books

Glitter Rose performs at AIMA Awards Ceremony
What a most incredible night on February 7 at Jon Lovitz Theatre for the 3rd Annual Artists In Music Awards! There were so many amazing artists that were recognized under the lights. With over 700 people in attendance, there were some of the most incredible performances. The buzz of the night was Glitter Rose and BP Major.

Glitter Rose not only performed her two famous songs, "American Girl" and "Kody Was a Killer," but  she walked away with four awards for Best Southern Rock Artist, Best Music Video for "Buda Negra" directed by Amy Campione, and Performer of the Year, but she also captured AIMA's top honor for Artist of the Year, which makes Glitter the most winningest artist in Artists In Music Awards history. Glitter Rose now holds six AIMA award titles.

BP Major performing at the AIMA Awards Ceremony
BP Major put on a jaw dropping performance. If you were expecting to see half naked men on stage, that's exactly what you got. No one was expecting five men in revealing green tights to be dancing on stage. BP Major also walked away with the award for Best Dance Artist.

What is most surprising is this year was the largest attendance of Nominees. Almost every nominee in each of the 30 categories were there at the awards ceremony on Friday. It was so great to see so many familiar faces and so many new faces as well.

There are so many artists to mention about the night. Cheating Daylight opened the show in high gear with a stellar performance. Congratulations to this young band of brothers for winning Best Rock Artist. They are definitely an artist to keep an eye on. One of the performers for the evening was Walla. Walla came away big with two awards for Best Alternative Artist and Best Indie Artist. A big congratulations to Walla. They are now a 3-time AIMA award winners. Another artist that walked away with multiple awards was 2013 Best Folk/Acoustic Artist winner, Soren Bryce. Soren swept both her categories to win Best Singer Songwriter and she defended her title to win Best Folk/Acoustic Artist for a second year in a row. Other repeat winners included Trevor Sewell for Best Blues Artist. Melanie Taylor put on a sensational performance and took home the Best Pop Artist trophy. Melanie is now a two-time AIMA winner.
