Located in Provincetown, Massachusetts, Hosts Burg and Jay will talk your ear off for 33 minutes.

Low Key Trash is a fairly new podcast with only three episodes and don't let the name fool you. There is nothing trashy about Low Key Trash. Just listening to one of their episode was enough to catch All Indie Magazine's attention.  The first episode is basically an introduction. Burg and Jay talk about living in Cape Cod and they touch on a wide variety of topics including talking about the Hip Hop music scene and culture. In this episode, you get to really know who Burg and Jay are.

Episode two is probably the most thought provoking episode. Burg and Jay really dig deep in the psyche as they discuss race, relationships, happiness, and even morals. Does teaching morals leave our children in a better world?

In their latest episode (Ep. 3), Burg and Jay talk about their home town of Cape Cod. They give listeners a bit of history of one of the more popular vacation destinations and the culture of the big, yet small town of Cape Cod. They also talk about the "underbelly" of Cape Cod that is rarely spoken upon. The cost of living is going up, the year-round population going down, and communities are dying while business is booming. This is a very intriguing episode if you know nothing about this town.

Thanks for tuning in this weeks episode of The Great Unknowns Presents. With 146 episodes now are on belt, today’s show is no different, but are you aware this is our 3rd year? That’s right. Looking back, we went from a simple college radio show and podcast with less than 300 listeners to a core audience of over 200,000 iTunes and Zune subscribers and beating out Adam Carrolla for the No. 1 spot. Our radio show went to the big stage and hosted the first annual Artists In Music Awards with 8 live performances and gave away 23 awards in front of 1,300 people in Hollywood, CA.

Hold Me Down: Interview with LoyalHollywood, Episode 128

LoyalHollywood is a 24-year-old unsigned R&B, Hip Hop Songwriter, Producer, and native of Kansas City, MI. Now residing in the city of his dreams, Hollywood, CA, LoyalHollywood met up with childhood friend, mentor, and R&B singer Cris Emanuel. Wasting little time, LoyalHollywood went straight to the studio in pursuit of his life dream of becoming a recording artist.

At the young age of 8, when other kids were out playing basketball or playing video games, Loyal was already working on his career goal as a musician and hard at work producing his first record in his uncles home recording studio. Even though this album probably wasn’t going to be a Top-40 chart stopper or even make it to the Billboard’s top 200, this was a pivotal moment in Loyal’s life when he discovered that a career in music was where he belonged.  

Today, as an unsigned artist, LoyalHollywood is already on his way with a production of his first full length CD. He’s released his first music video called, “Hold Me Down ft. Cris Emanuel” directed by Delvon Simmons. And, if you think that wasn’t enough for a great start, Loyal’s already in line to release a second music video for his fan favorite song, “Wake up, Go to Work”, a song about the daily struggles of the modern working class, living in a monotonous world of the “9 to 5” job.

Touch and Go with Stacy Clark: Live Interview at Hardrock Cafe

Four years old and running around while singing as her grandfather would play the accordion. This was the first stage for Stacy Clark.

Originally from Buffalo, NY, the singer-songwriter currently resides in Orange County with her newly wedded husband, Aaron. Now 30 years-old, Stacy has had an impressive career so far and its only just beginning.

Since her first EP in 2002 called, “Movement”, one in 2006 called, “Unusual”, and her latest release from 2010 called, “Connect The Dots”. Her music has also appeared on 20 television shows including The Hills, Engaged and Underaged, Girlfriends, and she’s been featured on MTV. Stacy has been nominated for 13 music awards, and she’s won 7 awards including Best Female Performer, Best Out of County Artist (Inland Empire Awards), and Best Pop.

One of Stacy’s most impressive accomplishments as an independent artist was the sale of her song, “White Lies” where she topped an impressive 420,000 downloads on iTunes, beating out Lady Gaga for sales in a single day [1]. 

No longer with Vanguard Records, Stacy is currently writing and working on a new music projects with a new band and some new songs for a brand new album that she will be self-releasing later this year or in 2012.

“It is a lot of hard work, but also very rewarding. I am at a very happy place right now,“ Stacy said.

Gabe Lopez CD Release of "Shine Like the Sun" interview with Mikey Jayy, Ep 118

Gabe Lopez is a Pop Rock / Dance artist from Los Angeles, CA. He's not just a singer, but he's an excellent writer and producer. Gabe has worked with several indie and well known and artists and he had a rare opportunity to write a few songs exclusively for James Brown. Unfortunately, Brown died and the song may never get released, but hopefully it will.

Working behind the scenes in the television and music industry, Gabe Lopez has been able to pursue a long life passion and that's to release his own music. In 2008, Gabe release his first album entitled, "This is About You", but his true talent is revealed in his album just released today called, Shine Like the Sun.

Shine Like the Sun, not only sounds better engineered, it reflects Gabe's maturity as a developed artist.  Songs like "Boomerang" with it's club flare, he also gives his listeners a variety, including my personal favorite, "Into the Sun" for the orchestra ensemble quality, which show he's risen above sounding like other artists and honed in on his own identity. The song that really impressed me was, "No Hate". Just like the title, the song reflects the frustration related to Proposition 8 and how it generated so much hate against the LGBT community. Gabe Lopez was asked to write a song that represented their peaceful movement against a law that promoted hate disguised as "family values".  Not only is it an entertaining song, it shows that he is also a gifted writer.

Combining Dance and Electro with Soul: Meet Elle Vee

Introducing Elle Vee. Elle's an extremely talented 21-year-old singer/songwriter from Northridge, CA. Ranging from a cross genre style of Dance meets Electro meets R&B and Pop Rock, Elle Vee is definitely an artist to keep an eye on.

Elle Vee didn't just come out of nowhere. Very skilled on the piano, Elle Vee is also a talented writer that began at the age of 11. Not only does Elle write songs for herself, she also writes for other recording artists.

So, who does this beautiful starlet sound like? There are so many qualities about Elle Vee's new music that compares her to several major artists and other fellow indie artists like Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, and indie sensation LIGHTS and Audrianna Cole. Some of Elle Vee's newest music includes, "I Like Girls", "Midnight Lover", "The Enemy", and "Translator" which are all songs that mainstream lacks. Like these tracks, all her music is well produced, composed, and performed, more importantly these songs should be trending modern pop culture because they are that good.

With that said, Elle Vee is not just your typical dance and party only music artist, in fact she has a ballad feature that is hard to ignore. Songs that stand out are "Playing with Fire", "Lost in Lust", and one of course my personal favorites,"Don't Wait". Elle's poses a voice that has a soft and tender vulnerability to it that lures and captivates your senses.

Interview with Heartstop: "Belonging at the Top"

Heartstop is Jake Hawkes, Tristan Montgomery, and Joe Khoury. They are an alternative-power-pop-rock band from Los Angeles, CA. They are one of the more amazing undiscovered bands of our current era.

They have been creating music since 2006, but didn’t start becoming recognized until 2008. Even with incredible music, their recognition was highly underscored in comparison to their level of performance.

Having known each other since High School and since the release of their first EP, “Short of a Miracle”, Heartstop’s has grown musically and gradually their sound has evolved over the last five years to become more mature, which earned them several spins at radio station KROQ in Los Angeles.

Their second EP, “Moments” grew from the simple boy band format, into an expansion of a broader sound that landed them in a genre among artists like Third Eye Blind, All American Rejects, Oasis, Dishwalla, Spin Doctors, The Bigger Lights, and The Status.

While their newer music is still in pre-production, most people will have to wait until the end of summer for the release of their brand new EP. The band gave me two of their new tracks, “Just Like Goodbye” and “How Many Times”, that I played during our interview. After sampling their new music, I quickly became a fan. Both songs have an amazing chorus.

“Just Like Goodbye” starts with an catchy piano solo that instantly grabs your attention, then breaks into Jakes vocals. The entire song is well balanced and has a chorus that will have you singing to yourself long after the song is over.

“How Many Times” begins with another piano solo, but quickly transition to the main part of the song with an awesome bass riff by Tristan alongside the full band. This track is one of the more mild tracks on their entire library, but they don’t leave out any luster which is Heartstop’s trademark sound.

One of the most appealing attributes of Heartstop is Jake’s voice. He is definitely backbone of each and every song. Jake doesn’t over sing and he manages to place his awesome false bravado in all the right places.

If you like good rock music that is heartfelt and modern, Heartstop is definitely a band to follow.

An Exclusive Interview with The Radiant by Great Unknowns Music Expose

Having only been together for three years, The Radiant produces music that is pure entertainment.

Without a record company to back them, with no studio, and only a MAC computer to their arsenal , Christian Yorke, Mark Mangold, and Jordan Brooks, recorded from their living rooms to create most of their incredible music. While a few songs are a little simplistic, overall The Radiant's music library is filled with tremendous collaborations of multi-dementional sounds that is showcased in songs like, "Say You Will", "Could Have Been Anyone", and "Given' it Away".

The lyrics and the voice of Yorke gives this band a distinctive quality that is clever and an artful form that absolutely completes their sound, something that has been missing in mainstream music and has been long over due.

I had the opportunity to preview their music and speak in-depth to keyboard/piano player, Mark Mangold. Here was our conversation:

So, how did The Radiant come to be? Were you all friends in high school or college? Or did you meet afterwards?
We all live in New York now when we put together the band about 3 years ago. We are kind of from all over the place, though we ended up here. Jonny Cragg our drummer is from Manchester England, Christian from Arkansas and Orlando, Florida. Myself, I'm originally from Florida and our bass player, Jordon Brooks, from the mid west. We all migrated here for

...the music.

You mentioned to me that your band is rooted to bands like Keane, The Fray, and Coldplay. Are these bands that you have looked up to for your motivation?

Our songs are very keyboard oriented and our singer has a voice in that vein. Maybe Jeff Buckley is another comparison. I guess you could call it alternative rock, though that covers a lot of territory.

Although you’ve been performing for a little over a year and a half, you are relatively new, but you guys have already managed to release two albums. It’s not cheap to create EP’s. Did you spend a lot of time in the studio or do you own your own studio?

Yes, we have "Macs"(smiles) and we did the record in our living rooms. We recorded drums at Bushwick Studios in Brooklyn, as getting a great drum sound in a kitchen is quite hard, but the rest we do here. We have the Marshall amp in the bathroom. Everything else, keyboards, vocals, bass, etc. You just plug in and play, so you could be anywhere for that.

When producing your music, The Radiant has had limited resources, but you guys have demonstrated that anyone can maximize any situation regardless of the limitations at hand. When you perform, do you have a full band?

Yes, live it's quite full, so there is a lot going on. What may normally be played on a guitar we figure out a way to play on a keyboard, through an amp, etc. And of course Christian plays guitar, as well as keys and drums, though for our show he is not playing keys or drums yet. Too much to set up. (smiles) But, someday at the right venue we can show some of the depth of our musicianship in our band beyond just being obnoxious and showing off. Don't get me wrong. It's not a bad thing to do. Well maybe not the obnoxious part.

Who wrote the lyrics for the vocals? Were the songs based on personal experiences?

Yes, everything was based on personal life experience going on at the time. Good things, crisis, statements we wanted to make about things in general. I wrote most of it and a bunch with Christian.

In today’s market, independent bands struggle to make it, due to the lack of mp3 sales and the vastness of competition. Are you in it for the long haul and for national attention, or are you happy with your place in the music industry?

We would ultimately want to get signed and take it major. Yes, the industry is strange, thus our song, Givin' It Away...though that's really about a relationship, but also works with the music (smiles again). We just want to spread the word and bring people to listen to. We'll keep doing this for sure for as long as we can and of course would love to be doing major tours, opening for a major band and doing what successful bands do.

So, tell me about some of current projects that The Radiant is working on (if any).What is in store for the future of The Radiant? What are your future goals? Are you doing any touring outside of the Tri-state area?
We keep recording and writing. We're planning to visit Europe again. We were there in June and that seems to be a wonderful venue for us. A lot of music appreciation over there. I am going to the UK this week actually to do some interviews and meetings to try to make some things happen, set up some dates, etc.

An Interview with Ryan Rulon of Spy for Hire

This week on The Great Unknowns Podcast, the artist spotlight is a indie rock band from Columbus, GA.

The band formed while they were in high school in 2004, but they didn't leave their mark outside of Columbus until 2007, when they released their first songs on iTunes and did their first East Coast tour. Those first seven tracks can be heard in their recently released 2009 full length EP, Speak in Numbers.

Spy for Hire was chosen as artist of the year for their explosive songs. Every track will have you bobbing your head with the volume turned up on your headset or stereo. These songs are just plain fun and you'll definitely want to turn it up.

I spoke with lead singer and guitarist, Ryan Rulon and I was able to ask him some compelling questions.

The Spy for Hire is a very creative name, but I'm sure this question is probably on the minds of all your fans. What is the meaning behind the name of your band? I've used the name with many different lineups in different periods of my life since I was a 15 year old kid. Having continued to use this name, to me, makes a statement of continuity and persistence. Using the name of my old high school "bedroom" band represents and reminds me of something constant about my life; everything about a person, more or less, changes with age and experience, and for me that has been true with the exception of this one thing; my unwavering knowledge that THIS, music, is what I've always done and will always do. As far as literal interpretations of the words; I can think of a few...but...maybe you can to :)

2009 was a productive year with the release of your debut album, Speak in Numbers. Did you have the fan reaction you were hoping for? Well, the record is still reaching new ears everyday and we're always happy when new people discover and enjoy it. As far as our preexisting fan base, many of them had heard these songs over two or three years of touring and playing them live, so there was never really that moment of dropping a bunch of new music on everyone at once and getting that big group reaction.I think with the next record that will be more the case- the record and THEN the shows where we play that record. Our release show at Hard Rock Live in Atlanta did sell out, so that was a great feeling.

What do you think is the missing piece of the puzzle to a huge success? When I was younger, I used to think that if you just kept hustling and trying to get it out there, that one day, you know.....the gods of rock or whoever will suddenly open the gates and say "Test passed: It is time!" or something. Ha ha! But what I've learned is that, at least in most cases, it isn't so much about the "big break" but rather, a series of little breaks achieved through much persistence and dedication. Also, you have to constantly maintain belief that what you are doing is art that the world actually wants. I think the ones who get the breaks are usually the ones who aren't doing it totally to get a "break" so much as an intrinsic necessity to express something, which will ultimately drive them to their own subjective measure of success. Or, maybe we just need some cooler haircuts :)

Do you guys have a line-up of tours coming up to attract more fans? As of now we are planning a tour of the southeastern US in late October/November and an east coast tour, most likely, at the beginning of next year. Hopefully 2010 will see us reaching our farthest tour stops yet. We hope to do some over-seas stuff as well. Besides, that I currently play 4-5 solo shows a week around the southeast.

Your band has such an awesome sound, but it's as if you haven't been found out about yet. I absolutely love your songs, especially "Friends & Neighbors", "There's your mistake", and "The Line". You have an appealing creative melody in most of your songs unlike anything I have heard before.

I must sound not like a journalist, but more like a crazed fan to you. I guess you can say I’m both. When I found you on Ariel PR, I became an instant fan from the very first song sample.

Do you often get these kinds of compliments? Thank you! Glad you mentioned "There's your Mistake". It seems to be one of the more under-mentioned songs on the record, though it's one of my favorites. Ya know, I think when you write music there are two approaches: Write songs with others' reactions in mind as you're writing or write songs for yourself and then hope that they find their way to others who relate and hear what you heard. When you're being honest with writing, maybe not always to the benefit of marketability, it certainly feels great to have someone else tell you that they really "get" it, too. We've had our share of that. We've also played to rooms of kids who couldn't seem to understand why we we're singing so falsetto and weren't trying to be heavier. We just dig what we dig. And we dig people who dig it too, ya dig?

Are there other artists that you look up too that motivate your music? Anything I've ever heard will manifest itself in a subconscious way somehow, sometime whether it's an old pop tune or an advertising jingle! These days I seem to only listen to R&B/Soul format radio. I don't find much that inspires me or that I relate to in rock music, really, lately. There's a line in an old Fugazi song, one of the greatest post-punk guitar rock bands ever, that says "I realized that I hate the sound of guitars". I always think of that line. I have no interest in being some white-boy guitar rock band or anything in particular for that matter. I want to make whatever music I feel like making at any time and then make something else. Take Prince for example. You have to just say "What would Prince do?" Ha ha He just does Prince... and that can be a lot of things. Really though, I don't have any desire to contribute anything to music but what is at the core of my own soul and to do that as honestly as possible. There isn't a musician alive or dead I'd rather be or sound like than me.

I was absolutely hooked, not only by your bands sense of individuality, by your lyrics, and especially by your bands balance of rhythm. In no way is your music dull, nor is it typical. In conjunction with Ryan Rulon’s false bravado in all the right places, truly adds that final piece that most music artists can only hope to inherit.
Who’s the writer of the group? I write the core songs and Andy also "laces" them up with some hot, sexy Andy licks here and there ;) On the next record we plan on experimenting with some different approaches; some more democratic and jammed out and some where I really go even further off the deep end with my own individual creative indulgence.

Are you working on another LP? We are currently writing and hashing out ideas for the next record. I have a lot of things I am working on privately that explore areas we haven't touched on Speak In Numbers or as a band, in general. I kinda have this nervous feeling of "What are Spy For Hire fans gonna think of THIS?" "What is my OWN BAND gonna think of this?" Which is how I know I'm doing it right! Me and Andy are also working on some things that he has brought to the table that, all in, I think gives us a vast span of different music to draw from to comprise the next record. I think that Speak In Numbers has a lot of range and I am very proud of that record. That said, I want the next one to smash that as far as going wherever we can imagine/feel like at the time, artistically. We plan on starting pre-production for that record in a couple of months...... OK. I'll be a bit more short-winded on these answers, now.

Is there any possibility of a video for any of your songs? Yes.

The Great Unknowns Podcast reaches a New Milestone!

The Great Unknowns Podcast just reached a milestone on Monday with over 10,000 iTune subscribers!

That's "in-freaking-credible" for a podcaster that only just published his first podcast 23 weeks ago back in April.

Host, Michael J reflects to that first month, "I remember back in April getting excited when I had just 300 listeners."

Why are there only 21 episodes showing on your podcast? "I didn't publish my first two podcasts on my new website because I didn't get the artist's permission to play their music. So many podcasters and even radio stations today don't tell you who you're listening to. If you play an artists music without permission or without at least indentifying them, then it's illegal," said Michael J.

How is it different from now from the first time you made your first podcast? "I was timid and shy at first, but I pressed on. I mean, it still needs improving and it still needs work to get national attention, but I'm proud of my accomplishments so early in the game."

While this show is constantly in development, it's gradually improving with coming episodes showcasing new incredible talent and having the artists themselves actually calling into the show and interacting with the host.

I heard you won some awards for your podcast. "Yes, I won two JACC awards. I won 1st and 2nd place for best podcast. I expected it, but it was still a shock," said Michael J.

Some of the newest exposer is due in part of Michael J's addition of the online music magazine, Great Unknowns Music Exposé. Each artist that is previewed on the Podcast is asked a series of questions for a full one-on-one interview, so fans can get a glimse of the people behind the music.

Much of her musical talent is owed to her grandparents. They are both musically gifted. Her grandmother plays the piano, and her grandfather is vocally gifted. While her inspiration was attributed by her grandparents, she cannot deny that some of her drive to perform is dedicated to her late mother, who tragically passed away while she was still in high school. This is when her gift poured onto paper and then transferred into the words in her music, especially in her CD, Femtastic which was released in 2007. “I really don’t like to consider my first two CD’s, because this was therapy for me. When my mom died, it was a way of coping,” said Jennings.

Her newest project, Storybook EP just launched this year is a collaboration of beautiful melody, heartfelt sounds of the piano and electronic pop that all combines to compliment her pure and innocent voice. “You can say whatever you like about the EP. The songs are Doorway, Figure Me Out, Hero, Your Way, and Umbrella. A lot of people find it interesting why I called it "Storybook." It has everything a storybook has...a hero, romance, love longed for, love lost and...wait for it...A COVER! hahahaha!” said Jennings.

While I could compare her music to Sarah MacLachlan, Jewel, or Nina Gordon, she is well deserving of her own unique style that stands out on her own. Not only is her music breath of fresh air, Jennings is a wonderful and warm person. I was pleasantly surprise that she is so down to earth and actually funny. In my interview with Mary, she gave a little singers secret. I was watching another one of your video blogs on Youtube and you talk about eating Lays Potato chips. Can you tell me more about that?

“The producer of the Femtastic record told me about this. There is something about the salt and oil of those chips that does wonders for sustaining a singing voice, says Jennings. “I don't have any other rituals before a show really except for eating a handful of Lays Potato chips....and yes they have to be the original, yellow bag kind.”
Can you elaborate about the songs you've written and tell me the significance of some of some of the songs? Why are these songs so meaningful to you?

“Every song I have ever written is meaningful to me because I only write about things I know. So, each one is very near and dear to me. Most of my songs are written about specific times in my life...maybe they lasted only a few moments like, Doorway or maybe they last a lifetime like Hero. All of my songs are directly inspired from life which is why I think they will be relatable to others. It is hard to imagine that a talent like her can go unrecognized for much longer. To prevent her music from being heard on the air waves of FM radio, MTV, VH1, or even the premium broadband stations would be a disservice to us all. Jennings is definitely a great unknown talent that deserves to be heard by all.”
Have you had any offers from any major record labels? If so, who made an offer to you and what happened?

“I haven't had any offers to speak of from labels as of yet but we are always open. I have had some placements in a few of the MTV reality shows and that always helps. Even if I did get an offer, it would have to be the right offer for me to take it. These days, it isn't that complicated to be successful in music on your own.”
Can we expect maybe a video or TV appearance in the future?

“I would love to do a TV appearance but no plans thus far. If you wanna see me though, all you have to do is watch for my video blogs and music videos on my myspace and youtube. I am a total nerd about video blogging and love it a ton. Youtube and MySpace.”
