D.K. Lyons takes us on a journey with The Past (Romanticized)

Introducing The Past (Romanticized), the 2020 LP release by D.K. Lyons. The musical variety and intense
coverage allow this album to be relatable to all its listeners. 

The Past (Romanticized) really focuses on one major aspect, providing relief from a strong or repressed emotion. These songs allude to the emotional cycle that occurs looking back at past relationships, moments of loss, mental state, and growing pains. The examples become apparent with the very first song, “The Getaway.” This track displays hope even when your outlook may appear grim, making it the flagship for what's the come on the entire album. This song details self-exploration, "We're two lost souls heading straight to hell’..."brace yourself, keep your eye on the prize". These lyrics aren't there to discourage you. They're written to inspire you. 

It feels like D.K. has done a bit of growing up since his first EP, Blame My Astrology. The production and songwriter feel more mature and the stories reveal he's gone through deeper revelations. 

The two most notable tracks have to be "Long Way Home" and "Danger" includes declarations of taking chances and falling in love. 

 

D.K.’s first solo release in 2018, called Blame My Astrology, was a lovable exploration of the ideas at the core of his sound with guitar rhythms, vocals, and the ceaseless, head-spinning barrage of hooks, so if you can't get enough of D.K. Lyons, you won't have to travel far for more tunes, but to be fair, D.K. is at least honest with his music and is less concerned about conforming to what the Pop world factory is dishing out. After pumping out 17 tracks in less than two years, we can certainly expect a lot more of his thought provoking stories in the coming years. 

Regardless of what people might think of The Past (Romanticized), D.K.’s already morphed a world
around it with numerous music videos to complement each hit. D.K. clearly believes that The Past (Romanticized) is his masterpiece, and everything around the record suggests as much. While a national tour may be out of the question due to Covid, we can only hope for a barrage of live performances from his living room to yours to give D.K. Lyon fans an installation of live streams from the man himself. 

Our recommendation is to not judge the book by its cover. Instead, dive all in, not just once, but twice over in one sitting. Play both playlists from his YouTube page from beginning to end from Blame My Astrology to The Past (Romanticized) and then reverse it and you will experience all the effects of an over-the-top pop autobiographical masterpiece of D.K. Lyons.

Janel Nabong's new song "Breathe" is a much needed message

Going as far back as 11 years ago, Janel Nabong has posted dozens of cover songs ranging from Demi Lavato, Halsey, Linkin Park, Twenty One Pilots, and Billie Elish just to name a few. It wasn't until 2019 that Janel began releasing songs of her own, beginning with "Hear Me". In 2020, Janel released her first full-length 10 song EP entitled, Temperamental now available on all streaming platforms. The Big Moon are a London four-piece band formed in 2014 by Juliette Jackson. Their debut album, Love in the 4th Dimension, was released on 6 April 2017, containing a number of singles previously released on their EP, The Road. The album was shortlisted for the prestigious Mercury Prize in 2017. The band is signed to Fiction Records and have toured internationally. They supported the Pixies on their 2019 UK tour.

The band gained exposure as they went in a co-headline tour in October 2015 with fellow London bands VANT and Inheaven. Following that tour, they supported artists The Maccabees, Ezra Furman and The Vaccines. In 2016, the band signed to Fiction Records. In March, they release their debut EP, The Road. Later in March, 29 they released the single "Cupid". In August 2016, the group released a cover version of Madonna's "Beautiful Stranger".

On 16 December 2016, the band announced their debut album Love in the 4th Dimension, and released new lead single "Formidable".

They were play-listed by BBC Radio 1 in July 2016.

The Big Moon played on Marika Hackman's second album, I'm Not Your Man, released in June 2017.

On 26 February 2020, the band were announced as the Official Record Store Day Ambassadors of 2020.

Ero Seagull perfects the art of story telling with Evolution EP

There is a buzz happening in the music scene and no, it's not talk of Covid-19. People are talking about Greek/Canadian Alternative Hip Hop Artist, Ero Seagull. All Indie Magazine was compelled to investigate further and look this artist up and what we found was a pleasantly surprising gem.

Ero Seagull has been quietly getting attention from many respected music industry folks and we decided to listen to her new EP Evolution on Spotify to check her out for ourselves. What we found was a twist of Rock, Hip Hop, EDM, combined with her ability to tell a great story.

The Greek/Canadian artist’s vibrant debut EP through EMI Universal seemed to announce a star in the making, and they are correct. The new EP, sounds newly refreshed and self-reliant in comparison to her peers of similar genres. Seagull prefers not to be pegged down by single genre labels, but to be known for her art and her lyrics. These lyrics, especially in her latest single, "What's in a Romeo feat. Leon Rhymes" give us a small glimpse of her music style, but to truly grasp Ero Seagull, you need to listen to all her music from beginning to end. In Ero's latest single, she collaborates with Hip Hop artist, Leon Rhymes. From the start, the track will have you rock'n to the guitar and beat to the story of Romeo and Juliet, "The night's for Juliet, when I unfold my love". Lyrics like this line grab you and make you want to listen to more. The song continues, "What's in a name? That which we call a rose, I heard you say, What's in a Romeo?" Did we mention Ero's great story telling ability? This is what attracted us the most.

Another track we couldn't turn away from is, "The Gospel". "The Gospel" is a strong message about the real story of Jesus' resurrection and the widely misunderstood story surrounding his sacrifice. The track starts off with dissonant cords and sound effects, then suddenly the beat drops and Ero comes in to tell us the true story of Christ. The best part of the song is how the story is told, "...I had to descend because I felt desire". Ero tells the story from the perspective of Jesus himself as if we are being told the true accounts of his life on Earth, "There’s no need to cry, The miracle’s coming". It's the sort of song, you have to hear again and again to get and understand its entire message.

Ero's ability to both sing and rap, along with her Greek/Canadian accent, makes her incomparable to anyone, yet she is still familiar. Some might bound to bring up Nicki Minaj and Mr. B comparisons. But where Ero’s lyrics are often devoted to her singular place in the spotlight, Ero Seagull’s are more illustrative of great story telling, whether it’s moments of history or lovers lying in bed. Ero's tracks also stands as a showcase of her knack for telling stories in the most creative ways, none better than the line, “...Then she proposed, said she wouldn't change me for the world, she's fucking death proof - Death Proof”

NYC Pop Princess Kendra Black Releases New Club Banger 'Air Pack Jet'

Kendra Black, Italian pop artist based in New York City, released new club banging pop single "Air Pack Jet" on August 17, 2016. She teamed up with major songwriters and producers to put together this single and others to be released on her forthcoming album "The Edge."

The song was produced by Hollywood production house Trend Def Studios (Snoop Dogg, Flo Rida) and cowritten by Bravo Reality TV actor Nick Nittoli and former EMI songwriter and performing artist Lachi. With a launch party on August 16 celebrating the single's release at Webster Hall and hosted by NYC's Hot 97 Morning Show host Laura Stylez, Kendra is bringing out this club banger with a bang! The Tuesday rainy night, drew a fiery, excited crowd as buzzing NYC acts Demi Grace, Chris Casino and Lachi opened up the night for Kendra. There was also a special performance by R&B vocalist Dudley Alexander a finalist of the New York Star of the Day tri-state reality series.

At the end of her set, Kendra thanked her dancers, band and fans and gave a special thanks to Lachi who appears to play a large role in the production of Kendra's music.

Kendra's got the look, the moves and the music to step on to the pop scene as a viable contender for the hearts of millions! Check out her new single Air Pack Jet on all online music stores!

Interview with Evan Wilson of EvWilsonMusic

Based out of NorthWest Indiana, Musician/Producer/Videographer Evan Wilson is a fresh new Youtuber with a passion for making music and video. At the age of 18, this multi instrumentalist is already beginning to find his place in Youtube's artistic community and build up an impressive catalog of online content that will leave viewers wanting more. From performing to producing to directing, this all around artist based out of the greater Chicagoland area has been honing his skills and is on the fast track to making a name for himself. Specializing in music performance and audio/video production, this well-rounded Youtuber's ultimate goal is to establish himself as an artist while collaborating with other artists and helping them achieve their creative goals.

Interview with Evan Wilson

Tell us about EvWilsonMusic. What does the name mean and why EvWilson?

Evan: It might have something to do with the fact that my name is Evan Wilson. But I will neither confirm nor deny.

You seem to have a sound that’s close to Maroon 5, Killers, Paramore, One Republic. By chance are these artists your influences?

Evan: Those artists definitely influence me in the sense that I listen to them a lot. They make the kind of music I love, so that will naturally influence my own sound. I also definitely look to other successful Youtubers for my inspiration. People like Alex Goot, Tyler Ward, Kurt Schneider, Boyce Avenue, and others who are where I would someday love to be. They're the pioneers of the whole Youtube model, so I definitely look to them as my influences.

Do you write and produce your own music? If so, what instruments do you play?

Evan: I haven't really explored much original music yet. I would love to work more on that in the future, but currently, I'm really working on collaborating with other talented artists on some covers. I've had the awesome opportunity to work with artists like Fathom Blue, Lexi Elisha, and Taylor Trent. I play piano, bass, guitar, percussion, and any other random thing I can make music with!

Besides Music, what is your favorite pass time?

Evan: I love to make videos. If I'm not playing music, you'll probably find me working on a video for another artist. I've done work for Michael Signorelli of Fathom Blue, and Lexi Elisha, which can be found on their Youtube channels.

What is your favorite sport and if you could play for a professional team, who would it be?

Evan: I've played baseball since I was 9 years old. I love the sport, and I once had dreams of playing for the Chicago White Sox, but then I decided to hang that idea up and pursue other things.

Name something on your bucket list that you’d like to accomplish in your lifetime?

Evan: Purchase an Apple Watch....Doesn't get any better than that, right? :)

If you were to do a cover song, which artist and which song would you pick?

Evan: If I want to cover a song, you'll probably end up seeing it on my Youtube channel! So subscribe and keep an eye out! I've got some stuff in the works that I think people will really love.

What is in store for Evan Wilson in the near future? What can fans expect within the next year?

Evan: More covers, maybe some originals, tons of colabs, and live shows! I've got some dates in the

works that I'm super excited about. I'll be traveling to The Ukraine this July to play some shows, as well as do some humanitarian work. So basically you'll just need to follow my social media and subscribe to my channel to keep up with it all. (Shameless plug)

Withdrawls: Interview with Kyle Gattison, Episode 160

Today on The Great Unknowns Presents, we have R&B, Singer/Songwriter, Producer, and Publicist, Kyle Gattison.

If you're in Hollywood long enough, you might find the R&B singer at Red Carpet events standing next to popular recording artists and you might be wondering who this guy is. He's not recognizable now, but he will be.

Kyle is laying down the ground work for his own publicity campaign. He's out there networking and meeting key people in the industry. Like a chess match, Kyle sees 10 moves ahead of himself. Each move is all part of a strategic plan to help the pre-launch of his brand new LP. Although he is in the early stages of his music career, he is out there building relationships and making friends in high places. 

By day, Kyle works as a Publicist for a company called Nati Celebrity Services. This service provides services including media relations, marketing communications, and literary productions. This company represents a wide variety of entertainers and athletes like Warren G, Slim of 112, Brad Whitford, WC, DMX, Wingo of Jagged Edge, Jeff Gordon, Kurt Busch, and many other major famous athletes and various celebrities. 

Kyle moved to Los Angeles earlier in 2012, but has already been working harder than most major recording artists. Together with Producer, Mike Szkmczyk, Kyle and Mike are working each night on the production of his new album well into the twilight hours.

Kyle definitely has the ambition of a seasoned major recording artist. With such dedication and drive, he does not need record label executives standing over him and cracking the whip...he does it to himself. 

Currently, Kyle only has "Withdrawls" and "Life Clock"released and can be found on his Facebook page, but except more incredible music by this talented recording artist this Fall. In our interview, we sampled a special version of "Withdrawls" that was remixed by J6.

All My Love: LIVE Interview with Ilhame Paris, Episode 159

The name Ilhame Paris alone says it all. In Arabic, the name “Ilhame” means “inspiration”.

When you are in the presence of Ilhame Paris, you’re not just drawn to her voice, or drawn to her by her incredible beauty, you are drawn by her intense spirit as a wonderful human being. Her love for life and passion for music is not only inspiring, but contagious.

Native of Paris, France and born of Moroccan blood, Ilhame’s musical diversity not only comes from her cultural background, her musical influence comes from a wide range of sources including R&B, Reggae, French Pop, and Jazz. Some of her songs are directly influenced by artists like Luther Vandross, Bill Withers, Rose Royce, and Bob Marley.

Two of Ilhame’s proudest accomplishments is doing very unique covers for the songs, “Waiting in Vain” and “I’m Still Waiting” originally created by Bob Marley. Ilhame not only honors the legend with an incredible cover of the song called “Still Waiting”, but she gives it a unique perspective by singing it in French and Arabic. That’s not all! Ilhame performs the song with Marley’s son, Ky-Mani Marley. Together, they create one of the most astonishing covers by the Reggae legend.

Ilhame’s debut album called, “Just Wish It” is filled with collaborations including Grammy Nominated R&B, Hip Hop, Electronica producer, Nicolay, and Shafig Husayn, who’s most notable work was a writer for Erykah Badu. Ilhame has also collaborated and recorded the songs with T3 of Slum Village and Rap artist, Big Pooh.

Having opened and toured for artists like Erykah Badu, Dwele, Van Hunt, The Roots, and Questlove, Ilhame is demonstrating she has the drive and ambition to do what it takes to become one of the greatest emerging artists of today.

The Controversy on The Great Unknowns Presents, Ep 158

Coming off the release of their debut album, “Real”, unsigned band, The Controversy has seen nothing but success in such a short amount of time with several music award nominations, including categories for Best Pop Artist, Best Rock Artist, Album of the Year, and Artist of the Year.

By the end of the night, the two-person group took home the biggest accolade, the Artist of the Year trophy at the first annual Artists In Music Awards in Hollywood, CA on February 10, 2012.

In addition to the elusive title, Laura took home the trophy for LGBTQ Person of the Year, a category in which voters could vote for any person in entertainment. Hands down, Laura was the one left standing who won by a landslide with 178 nominations out of 228 total nominations. Among the nominees, people like Madonna, Ellen Degenerous, Christina Aguilera, George Takei, Lady Gaga, and JD Strait were some of the names mention, but only Laura Vall and Adam Lambert received multiple nominations. Lambert came in second with eight nominations, respectively.

The Controversy consists of just two members, Singer/Songwriter, Laura Vall and multi-talented Producer and Musician, Thomas Hjorth. The two met when Laura Vall moved to Venice, CA from Barcelona, Spain to pursue her music career. After meeting with her producer of interest in Los Angeles, Thomas began working on her background music. Eventually, Thomas Hjorth became a vital part of The Controversy. 

Originally from the Nordic country of Denmark, Thomas discovered an instant chemistry with Laura’s music and both recognized each others talents, thus began their incredible project together. By July 2011, the album was all but complete with two music videos directed and produced by Thomas for the songs, “Real” and “ Little Star”.

 The album itself is a definite piece of musical art, delivering not only incredible sounds, but the lyrics alone are so engaging and thought provoking, especially the songs, “Real,” which is a song about the inners fears that all people face within. Other songs like, “Little Star” stands out because it is a powerful song about losing a significant person in her life. Along with the songs like, “So Long” and “Speak to Me,” these four tracks are enough to keep you engaged enough to continue to listen to the entire eight-track album.

The Jellycats

On Thursday I got the chance to see the second part of The Jellycats - T.W.A.T video being filmed by +44 films. It was really enjoyable and so funny watching 'the twat's' performance.

The Jellycats remind me of a modern day madness, which makes them adaptable to all ages, I love that there's finally a band that both my dad and I can enjoy. When i asked who they thought they sounded like most The Jellycats compared themselves to Reel Big Fish which i totally agree with!

I love how the video has come out, they had a clear idea of what they wanted and +44 films managed to capture that perfectly. It was really refreshing to meet a band that are so down to earth, lovely, welcoming and genuine. I'm rooting for The Jellycats success as they really do deserve it.

Ready Set Stun: The Great Unknowns Presents LIVE, Ep 146

Thanks for tuning in this weeks episode of The Great Unknowns Presents. With 146 episodes now are on belt, today’s show is no different, but are you aware this is our 3rd year? That’s right. Looking back, we went from a simple college radio show and podcast with less than 300 listeners to a core audience of over 200,000 iTunes and Zune subscribers and beating out Adam Carrolla for the No. 1 spot. Our radio show went to the big stage and hosted the first annual Artists In Music Awards with 8 live performances and gave away 23 awards in front of 1,300 people in Hollywood, CA.

While others claim to play today’s best independent music, we actually do. We brag, because it’s true. You won’t hear some hack with a cheap computer program and a microphone. What started out as a college podcast show to inform people of new and upcoming bands, has turned into a popular radio show on KGUP 106.5FM. We got our first syndication in Miami, FL at Butterflies Radio. A lot of great things have happened, including our first ever Artists In Music Awards ceremony which was a successful live stage showcase and awards event. Nearly 1,400 people attended our first award show and we could not be happier with the massive turn out.

I cannot thank you enough for listening to us and following our progress throughout the years. If you're new to this show, then you are in for a treat. No one else plays better music than we do. I'm not just saying that, our rankings prove it. Each week, we are in the top 10 for best podcast/radio show...in the world! We were #1 in 2011 and we plan on continuing that tradition for years to come.

Artists In Music Awards Artist of the Week: AOEDE

You’re nominated in two categories, "Best Folk/Acoustic Artists" and "Best Singer/Songwriter" at the 2012 Artists In Music Awards. How do you feel about this?
Thrilled, privileged and giddy with excitement over the nominations! It's been a crazy few years leading up to this-life threw me a few unexpected curve balls on the health front-so it means even more to me to receive recognition for Aoede's music! I've worked really hard over this past year to live my dream through many challenges-and collaborated with an amazing producer, Scrote, and fantastic musicians on the most recent recordings from Affair with the Muse (2011). I also really invested in social networking, and I've found so many people to be supportive of the nominations! I'm so appreciative for the positive feedback, support and belief in Aoede's music. Filled with gratitude and love!

Will this be your first awards show and have you received an award before?
Yes, first awards show! I was one of two winners for an Express in Music Contest in May 2011 to pitch an original song to a brand! I pitched Aoede's "Love Proof" to Apple and won the popular vote and some prize $$ and a pitch!

Aoede was crowned Womens Radio's Artist of the Year 2008, and Aoede's Push and Pull (2008) was one of Womens Radio's Top Albums of the Decade!

In Aug 2010 Aoede's “I Lost You Win” single charted at #11 on the International Association of Independent Recording Artists (IAIRA) International Top 15! I also am a multi-year (at least 4 years) ASCAP Plus award recipient!

This being our inaugural year, how did you hear about the All Indie Music Awards?
I believe Aoede's song "Love Proof" was on Great Unknowns Presents earlier this year-I follow the show and probably first heard about it there.

Have you listened to some of your competition's music, what do you think?
Yes!! Such talented, compelling singers, songwriters, and musicians-I am just tickled to be included among such high caliber artists, and so pleased that Aoede's music resonates with people in similar ways!

Explain your road to the AI Music Awards, where you involved in music from a young age?
Albums - how many? Your personal favorite? Your most recent?
Super active in drama, musicals, and singing/performing, writing from a very young age and through high school. As an adult, one of life's many transitions found me re-inventing myself as lead singer in a cover band for a few years back in 2002 where I started writing original songs, playing guitar and discovering my muse. I formed Aoede (pronounced A-E-D) late 2005. The name means song in Greek mythology and Aoede was the muse of song. I wanted affiliation with the muse to remember to be inspired and to continually inspire. Aoede is compelling pop for your heart... Fans of Ingrid Michaelson, Regina Spektor, Feist and Lily Allen resonate with Aoede's quirky brand of pop music!

As I mentioned, life threw me a curve ball in 2008, so I have been focusing a lot lately on writing, recording, and licensing for film and tv. Music is my lifeline, and I use music and the creative process to inspire others to keep their dreams alive!

Super excited to be completing my 4th studio release (2nd full length album) now and plan a Spring 2012 release!

Released first EP Ear Candy (2006), first album Push and Pull (2008), and 7-song digital EP, Affair with the Muse (2011). Push and Pull was included in Womens Radio's Top Albums of the Decade for 2008!

My favorite is Affair with the Muse! I believe this most recent album reflects a new artistic direction for Aoede, more developed songwriting and more honesty from compelling life experiences. The main theme-going around and around on the wheel of love-is reflected not only in songs such as Love Proof or Fairy Tale Love, but also in the album's digital collage artwork: a ferris wheel. I was privileged to work with an amazing producer: Scrote, engineer/mixer: Mark Needham, and stellar crazy-talented musicians (e.g., Rob Shrock (Burt Bacharach), David Palmer (Fiona Apple), Blair Sinta (Melissa Etheridge, Alanis Morissette), Dave Piltch (Sam Phillips), The Section Quartet)!

My new album (2012) will include 6 brand new songs and the 7 songs from Affair with the Muse-with new elements and totally remixed and mastered!

Honestly, the whole journey or road here has been tremendous-from finding out I was nominated for 2 categories, to reaching out to folks to ask for their support and interacting, receiving such positive feedback in terms of support and sharing, and now just telling some of my story! I do look forward to being at the awards ceremony and cheering on all of the nominees! For me, I'm happy for now just being on the road...
